Reclining Forward Bend

Butterfly Variation Technique:

  • Partners sit back to back.
  • One partner sits with the soles of their feet touching in the butterfly pose.
  • The other partner moves their shoulders up on to their partner's shoulders providing a weight to help the base partner bend forward.
  • Switch partners.

Legs Straddled Variation Technique:

  • Start by sitting back to back.
  • One partner spreads their legs in a straddle position.
  • The recliner moves their shoulders up and on to their partner.
  • Switch partners.

Straight Legs Variation Technique:

  • Start back to back.
  • One partner puts their legs out in front of them with their feet flexed.
  • The recliner moves their shoulders up and on to the bending partner as they lay back and extend their arms over their head.
  • Both partners breathe deeply.
  • The cue to end the pose is when the bending partner pushes against the recliner.

Health Benefits:

Bending partner gets a deep stretch for the whole backside of the body. You will find that with a partner you are able to bend deeper into these stretches than ever before. These stretches release tension and fear stored in the pelvis.

Reclining partner releases pent up energy from the heart area and opens the chest, shoulders and ribs. A relaxing stretch for the front of the body.

Keep in Mind:

Bending partner will get most benefit if they deepen the stretch each time they exhale.

Recliner, communicate with your partner so as to create enough but not too much pressure when your weight is on the bender's back.

Recliner may need to spread their feet for increased balance.
